Cold recall: terms, tolerances, and the rules you don't get to look up
Move the sector's non-negotiables from "I could find that" to "I know that", because on the floor there is no lookup step.
Why this design
Short, repeated, spaced recall until it's automatic. Safety rules, terminology, tolerances, codes — content that must be recalled cold.
What this evidences
- core×1 at Emerging
By the end, the learner can
- Adverse event data: enter and track in database software under close supervision, flagging discrepancies for investigator review.
- Study compliance requirements: recognize and apply basic local and federal regulatory standards when assisting with routine monitoring tasks.
- Patient and caregiver communications: deliver scripted information about study procedures and expected outcomes under coordinator supervision at a clinical site.
Where the technique itself comes from
This module builds the judgment around the task — the standard it has to meet, what to verify, what to hand off, and where it goes wrong. It does not teach the technique. Learning to transfer a patient safely, disinfect a scope, or run a weld comes from supervised practice and your program's own training, and this assessment measures whether you have it rather than replacing it.
Nobody has attached training for this sector yet. An instructor can add it under the sector's resources, and it will appear here for every participant.
Session plan
- 10 minWhat has to be automaticWhere this shows up: laboratories and research organizations, working with managers, researchers, technical staff. Conditions to expect: evidence-driven, precision-focused, methodical. Entry roles this maps to: Histology Technicians, Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technicians.
- identify and handle under direct supervision during initial tissue-cutting exercises in a clinical histology laboratory.
- 20 minRound oneWork the task on your own first. Support is available, but ask for it out loud so the group hears what got you stuck.
- Tools in play: Data base user interface and query software, Spreadsheet software, Office suite software.
- 20 minRound two, spacedWork the task on your own first. Support is available, but ask for it out loud so the group hears what got you stuck.
- Tools in play: Data base user interface and query software, Spreadsheet software, Office suite software.
- 10 minWhat's still shakyClose the loop: what changed between the first attempt and the last, and what would have to be true for the work itself to hold up on a bad day.
