The method: obtain and record patients' medical histories
Get the sector's most common procedural work right the first time, including the documentation that has to travel with it.
Why this design
Watch it done, do it with support, then do it clean. Procedural work with a correct method — documentation, setup, handoffs, tools.
What this evidences
- core×1 at Emerging
By the end, the learner can
- Medical records and correspondence: transmit via fax, e-mail, or postal mail using standard templates provided by the practice.
- Patient intake documents: collect and organize into designated physical or electronic folders under supervisor direction in a clinical administrative area.
- Laboratory results and routing slips: receive, sort, and deliver to the assigned provider or nurse using established office workflow charts.
Where the technique itself comes from
This module builds the judgment around the task — the standard it has to meet, what to verify, what to hand off, and where it goes wrong. It does not teach the technique. Learning to transfer a patient safely, disinfect a scope, or run a weld comes from supervised practice and your program's own training, and this assessment measures whether you have it rather than replacing it.
Nobody has attached training for this sector yet. An instructor can add it under the sector's resources, and it will appear here for every participant.
Session plan
- 20 minThe methodWhere this shows up: hospitals and clinics, working with families, patients, physicians. Conditions to expect: patient-facing, emotionally demanding, safety-sensitive. Entry roles this maps to: Endoscopy Technicians, Home Health Aides, Medical Equipment Preparers.
- follow manufacturer protocols and facility checklists under direct supervision in a clinical endoscopy suite.
- 25 minWorked exampleDemonstrate endoscope cleaning and disinfection steps as a endoscopy technician would do it. The technique is yours to teach — this plan covers the judgment around it, so narrate the decision points out loud and name which parts were judgment and which were procedure.
- Do it once at working pace so the shape is visible.
- Do it again, stopping at each point where a different call was possible.
- Name the one mistake that costs the most here, and why it's tempting.
- 30 minYou try itWork the task on your own first. Support is available, but ask for it out loud so the group hears what got you stuck.
- Tools in play: Medical software, Spreadsheet software, Office suite software.
- 15 minCheck and correctClose the loop: what changed between the first attempt and the last, and what would have to be true for the work itself to hold up on a bad day.
