Cold recall: terms, tolerances, and the rules you don't get to look up
Move the sector's non-negotiables from "I could find that" to "I know that", because on the floor there is no lookup step.
Why this design
Short, repeated, spaced recall until it's automatic. Safety rules, terminology, tolerances, codes — content that must be recalled cold.
What this evidences
- core×1 at Emerging
By the end, the learner can
- User inquiries about common software errors: receive and log into a ticketing system under supervisor direction at an entry-level support desk.
- Cable connections and basic network peripherals: install and route according to provided diagrams under close technician oversight in a corporate office environment.
- System startup and shutdown commands: enter and observe outputs to verify correct operation under direct guidance on standard workstations.
Where the technique itself comes from
This module builds the judgment around the task — the standard it has to meet, what to verify, what to hand off, and where it goes wrong. It does not teach the technique. Learning to transfer a patient safely, disinfect a scope, or run a weld comes from supervised practice and your program's own training, and this assessment measures whether you have it rather than replacing it.
Nobody has attached training for this sector yet. An instructor can add it under the sector's resources, and it will appear here for every participant.
Session plan
- 10 minWhat has to be automaticWhere this shows up: technology teams and corporate it environments, working with managers, technical teams, users. Conditions to expect: analytical, system-dependent, problem-solving intensive. Entry roles this maps to: Computer Systems Analysts, Computer Systems Engineers/Architects, Computer User Support Specialists.
- identify and escalate following documented troubleshooting protocols under direct supervisor guidance in a corporate IT environment.
- 20 minRound oneWork the task on your own first. Support is available, but ask for it out loud so the group hears what got you stuck.
- Tools in play: Development environment software, Web platform development software, Data base user interface and query software.
- 20 minRound two, spacedWork the task on your own first. Support is available, but ask for it out loud so the group hears what got you stuck.
- Tools in play: Development environment software, Web platform development software, Data base user interface and query software.
- 10 minWhat's still shakyClose the loop: what changed between the first attempt and the last, and what would have to be true for the work itself to hold up on a bad day.
