The first two weeks

Asking for help without looking lost, taking a correction, and finding out what 'done' means here. The skills that decide whether a first job lasts.

Target level: Proficient Has functional knowledge of the skill and can apply it properly in specific on-the-job settings.

Why this design

Play the interaction live with a partner, then swap and run it again. Interaction-heavy skills — customer service, escalation, difficult news, handoffs.

What this evidences

  • communication×1 at Proficient
  • mindfulness×0.6 at Proficient

By the end, the learner can

  • Cross-departmental coordination: leads marketing communication workflows with product development, sales, and operations teams, ensuring specifications and timelines are understood and actioned
  • Customer needs communication: elicits equipment requirements and operational constraints through structured consultative dialogue, translating technical specifications into purchase recommendations
  • Performance feedback delivery: communicates individual and team performance evaluations to sales representatives with specificity, clarity, and developmental focus

Session plan

  1. 5 minThe sceneWhere this shows up: retail settings and client sites, working with managers, customers, sales teams. Conditions to expect: customer-facing, target-driven, persuasion-based. Entry roles this maps to: Cashiers, Counter and Rental Clerks, Demonstrators and Product Promoters.
    • communicates placement schedules, specifications, and campaign requirements to media partners to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of advertising
From Advertising and Promotions Managers (11-2011.00)
  2. 10 minRun itPairs. One plays the managers, one plays the Cashiers. Run the scene for four minutes, then swap. The observer scores against the criteria before anyone discusses it.
    • Tools in play: Office suite software, Spreadsheet software, Data base user interface and query software.
  3. 10 minObserver scores itScored live against the four levels. The scorer marks what they saw, not what they assume the learner could do on a better day. Proficient is the target for this point in the program: Has functional knowledge of the skill and can apply it properly in specific on-the-job settings.
  4. 10 minSwap and re-runClose the loop: what changed between the first attempt and the last, and what would have to be true for communication to hold up on a bad day.
